EPL Penalty: Everton appeal against 10 point deduction

On Friday, Everton submitted an appeal against the Premier League’s unprecedented 10-point deduction, citing breaches of financial sustainability rules.

The club vehemently reacted to what they consider the harshest penalty in Premier League history for exceeding loss-making limits during the 2021/22 season.

Despite a maximum allowed loss of £105 million over three years, an independent commission found Everton’s loss at £124.5 million.

The appeal has cast Everton into the relegation zone, risking their 70-year stay in the top flight. Manager Sean Dyche expressed astonishment and hinted at potential scrutiny of other clubs.

Everton fans protested the decision, while Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham raised concerns about the penalty’s severity and the lack of a sanctions policy.
