Governor Akeredolu Delegates Authority to Deputy Governor as He Commences Medical Leave.

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has instructed his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to temporarily assume his duties as he takes a medical leave starting Wednesday.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, revealed that Governor Akeredolu, who has been unwell since January, will focus on his health for a complete recovery before returning to official responsibilities.

The official communication of the medical leave and the formal transfer of power, as per the Nigerian Constitution, will be sent to the House of Assembly.

Governor Akeredolu, known for consistently empowering his deputy during annual vacations, has previously practiced this on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023.

Parts of the statement read, “A formal letter regarding the medical leave and a notice formally transferring power in line with the Nigerian Constitution will be transmitted to the House of Assembly.“As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a widely respected Nigerian, Governor Akeredolu has consistently delegated power to his deputy during his annual vacations. This practice was observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, when he embarked on previous vacations.”
