A Tribe Called Judah’ by Funke Akindele achieves a historic milestone as the first Nollywood film to surpass N1 billion

Funke Akindele’s latest movie, ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the inaugural Nollywood film to cross the N1 billion mark at the box office. The film accomplished this feat within three weeks of its release. In a statement on Thursday, FilmHouse Group CEO Kene Okwuosa declared this historic achievement, highlighting that the Nigerian cinema is currently experiencing a golden era.

The statement further emphasized, “Akindele’s film has not only captured the audience’s attention but has also demonstrated the steadfastness of Nigerian cinema in the presence of global streaming giants such as Netflix and Prime Video.”

Upon its release on December 15, 2023, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ set a remarkable record as the first Nollywood movie to exceed N113 million in its opening weekend. Notably, Funke Akindele’s previous film, ‘Battle on Buka Street,’ achieved a box office gross of N650 million in 2022, marking another significant success in her filmmaking career.
