‘I Turned to Dance as a Means to Enhance My Mental Well-being’ – Kaffy

Renowned Nigerian professional dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, revealed that she began dancing as a way to enhance her mental well-being. Kaffy shared this insight during her recent interview on Channels TV, where she discussed her upbringing and how, being raised by a single parent, she discovered comfort and solace in the art of dance.

Later on, she evolved her dance skills into a fitness awareness initiative at the Lagos State National Stadium with the intention of “bringing life” to people.

She expressed, “Even before considering dance as a profession, I always viewed it as a tool to support my mental well-being. Growing up in a typical Nigerian household with divorced parents, navigating life as a young teenager was challenging. Dance became my refuge—an art form where I could find solace and transform myself.

“As I connected with others in the social sphere, I realized that people sought an escape. I began exploring this at the national stadium until I transitioned into the entertainment space.”
