Residents in Ibadan experience heightened fear as explosion demolishes homes, claiming several lives

An explosion suspected to be a bomb blast occurred around Old Bodija, off Adeyi area in Ibadan yesterday. The incident resulted in the destruction of numerous houses, causing unspecified casualties with many people injured.

As of the time of reporting, the cause of the explosion, which happened a few minutes after 8 pm on Tuesday, is yet to be determined. According to a source, the blast took place within one of the buildings in the vicinity.

HYPEBLOG9JA MEDIA has gathered that several individuals are still trapped under the debris of the destroyed houses. Both injured and deceased individuals have been transported to major hospitals in the ancient city.

Security forces, including the army and police anti-bomb units, have been deployed to the affected areas, conducting search and rescue operations.

While investigations are ongoing, residents have been urged to remain calm, with the state government asserting full control of the situation. The State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, released a statement addressing the incident and reassuring the public that the government is actively managing the unfortunate occurrence to minimize its impact.

“All security service chiefs, including para-military chiefs and fire operatives, have been dispatched by the governor to contain the aftermath of the explosion. His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde urges citizens to remain calm and assures them that their concerns are being addressed.”
