Bishop Feyi Daniels sentenced to life imprisonment for r*ping assistant

A Lagos bishop, Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for raping his 23-year-old assistant (whose name was withheld).

Justice Rahman Oshodi also handed Daniels, the Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry, Lagos, a three-year prison term for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church, which was count three of the four-count charge.

The judge ruled that the cleric would serve his life sentence at the Kirikiri custodial facility in Lagos.

Justice Oshodi found that the prosecution successfully established the essential elements of the two offenses.

He stated that Daniels is dishonest and lacks respect for the truth.

However, the judge acquitted Daniels of count two of the charge, which involved the rape of another church member (whose name was withheld).

Oshodi determined that there was an aspect of consent from the church member.

Additionally, the judge acquitted Daniels of count four of the charge, which pertained to the attempted rape of another church member.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Daniels faced a modified four-count charge related to rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.

Rape is in violation of Section 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
