AFCON 2023: Super Eagles N3bn richer ahead of South Africa semi-final

The Super Eagles have secured a prize purse of $2.5 million (equivalent to N3 billion) following their qualification for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria clinched a 1-0 victory against Angola last Friday to advance to the penultimate stage, where they will face South Africa with a spot in Sunday’s final at stake.

Jose Peseiro’s squad, alongside South Africa, DR Congo, and hosts Ivory Coast, have all guaranteed themselves a share of the $2.5 million prize money.

Prior to the tournament’s commencement, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), announced a 40% increase in prize funds.

Should Nigeria progress to the final, they stand to secure a minimum of $4 million (equivalent to N5 billion) in prize money.

Furthermore, if they emerge victorious in the tournament, they will be awarded $7 million (equivalent to N8.8 billion).
