Court voids N21.5bn money laundering charge against ex-Chief of Air Staff Amosu, others

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos rendered null and void a criminal charge leveled against former Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu, and two others regarding an alleged N21.5 billion money laundering scheme.

According to a report by HYPEBLOG9JA MEDIA, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had re-arraigned the defendants on an amended 13-count charge relating to money laundering amounting to N21.5 billion.

On Tuesday, Justice Aneke upheld a preliminary objection presented by the defense counsel, disputing the court’s jurisdiction to handle the case. This objection was based on the argument that the defendants were serving military officers at the time of the alleged offenses.

The argument presented was that the defendants, being officers at the time of the alleged offenses, were exclusively under the jurisdiction of a court martial for trial.
