Rema becomes first African artist to win Chinese music award

Renowned Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has etched his name in history by becoming the first African artist to claim a prestigious Chinese music accolade.

This milestone was achieved when his song ‘Calm Down’ remix, featuring American superstar Selena Gomez, was honored with the Best Collaboration of the Year award at the 2024 Hito Music Awards in the Republic of China.

The award ceremony, hosted by DJ Andy and presented by Hit FM, Taiwan, showcased Rema’s remarkable achievement, placing him in the esteemed company of American and British artists who have previously clinched this Taiwanese honor.

Among the notable international musicians recognized at the event, American global pop icon Taylor Swift stands out as one of the most celebrated, boasting an impressive tally of over six awards.
