AFCON 2023: Odegbami urges NFF to protect Super Eagles from distraction

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been warned by former Super Eagles winger Segun Odegbami not to let the team get sidetracked before their matchup with the Cote d’Ivoire Elephants.

Cote d’Ivoire will face Jose Peseiro’s team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday in Abidjan.

Odegbami, who led the Super Eagles to an AFCON championship on home soil in 1980, said it’s critical that the NFF put some sort of safety net around the team.

There is a fascinating tale of a triathlon racer who led the field for the majority of the race, outperformed all other competitors, and appeared certain to win. However, she stumbled near the tape and lost her balance. Just as she was gathering her strength to crawl toward the line, she saw someone else cross her and win. The story’s message is that nothing is finished until it is,” he said on thenff.com.

“During the final few days leading up to the game, the NFF should not permit any type of disturbance surrounding the team. Let’s give the boys plenty of time to concentrate and give their all on the work at hand. Idle visits to the team camp should not be permitted.
