Ric Hassani: Most hit songs in Nigeria aren’t good music

Ric Hassani, a Nigerian singer, songwriter has discussed his thoughts on the Afrobeats musical style.

He claims that over time, Afrobeats music has become significantly worse in quality.

He said that while the popular songs of today are “not very good music,” the hits of the past were excellent songs.

Recently, Hassani was featured on the Channels TV show Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka.

“Afrobeats is Nigerian music,” he declared. Now that our guys are in the top 10, I think that more people will want to join in and the music quality will stop declining. Thus, the quality is becoming worse.

Hit songs used to be serious music, but these days, practically everyone can listen to them. Today’s Nigerian hit songs tend to be of poor musical quality. It wasn’t like this in the past. We’ve been at the top for so long that it seems like everyone is just putting money behind whatever they want to drop.
