Clubs will vote on whether to scrap VAR ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

Ahead of the 2024/2025 season, clubs will decide whether to Scrap VAR through a voting process.

Scrap VAR; Premier League clubs are set to vote on the potential elimination of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) ahead of the 2024/2025 season following a proposal put forth by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The proposal, triggered by numerous contentious decisions affecting the Midlands club this season, was formally submitted to the league body.

It acknowledges VAR’s initial implementation with good intentions for football and the Premier League but highlights unintended negative consequences damaging the fan-football relationship and undermining the league’s brand value.

To enact any rule changes, the proposal would require approval from at least 14 member clubs. VAR was initially introduced in 2019 to provide support to on-field officials in making crucial match decisions.
