The shocking cancellation of Blue Bloods in 2024 was a tough one for the fandom to swallow. After a 14-season run, the news that the CBS procedural would be coming to an end sent shockwaves through the dedicated following who had followed the Reagan family from the very beginning. Luckily, the network didn’t keep audiences hanging for long and soon announced that an offshoot would follow Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan to pursue a new chapter in Boston. Titled Boston Blue, the page officially turned on the fresh series as part of CBS’ 2025 fall slate, and it has been a massive hit for the network ever since. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’re thrilled to unveil a sneak peek of the show’s midseason return, which is slated for an arrival on Friday, February 27.
The fallout of the events of the midseason finale is in full swing in our first look at Boston Blue’s return installment. Searching for answers, Danny (Wahlberg) and Sean (Mika Amonsen) speedily walk through the police station only to hear more about the distressing overturning of multiple convictions thanks to the unveiling of a corrupt ADA. After the news briefing they’re watching shows a clip of the murder of Ben Silver, Danny asks Sean to find the full snippet on the internet. As they watch the shooting go down all over again, Danny notices something new — the shooter used his left hand to pull the trigger, a new tidbit that looks like it will help catapult the investigation forward.
Bowing out on December 19 with its nailbiting midseason finale, the last episode of Boston Blue left audiences on a massive cliffhanger with the fate of the Silver family up in the air. The creative team swung big with the seeming murder of Ben’s alleged killer, Ronan Flaherty (Jack Murray), at the hands of Jonah (Marcus Scribner), who had been spiraling during the preceding episodes. When we return to the police-centered universe, we’ll jump right back into the action that not only promises to uncover more truths about the Silver family but that will also launch Danny and Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) into a new case that threatens to tear everything apart.
Will ‘Boston Blue’ Return for Season 2?
CBS gave the greenlight to a handful of both its newer projects and beloved titles by renewing them before entering 2026. On the slate of returning titles, Blue Bloods nabbed a sophomore renewal alongside its fellow newcomer Sheriff Country. More recently, we learned that the network’s sure-fire hits, Tracker and Fire Country, would also be back in the mix, with the former making a fourth-season comeback and the latter returning for Season 5 as part of CBS’ 2026 fall slate.
