Netflix’s Dark 6-Part Crime Thriller Proves It’s One of the Best Series Right Now

Chances are, if you log into your Netflix account, should you own one, you'd find your fair share of titles that would soothe your entertainment appetite. From rom-coms to horror and intense thrillers, the streamer has something for everyone, from all across the globe. Netflix has met expectations once more, as the streamer recently released the surprisingly addictive Spanish thriller. In its 6-episode package, this Spanish-language thriller explores the story told by British author Gillian McAllister in a 2021 page-turner of the same name.

The series is set in the Dominican Republic and tells the story of the Arbizu sisters, with the youngest daughter of the family, Elena (Clara Galle), a young mother to a one-year-old, and her older sister, Paula (Claudia Salas) both deciding to visit Cris (Paula Usero), their sister. On a previous trip, Cris had decided on impulse to open an animal shelter in Punta Cana. During the trip, everything seemed to be going well. That is, until Cris takes a call from Elena, who has somehow found herself with the body of a dead man under her vehicle. What follows is a decision to close ranks and protect family. However, with no skilled criminal mastermind among them, things unravel quickly.

With its six-episode run, That Night explores all that happened that fateful night and in the build-up to it. Now, according to data collected from FlixPatrol, many across the globe are finding the story quite intriguing and spellbinding. The series premiered on March 13 on Netflix and has since cracked the Top 10 of over 60 nations and territories globally, including the United States, Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, and a host of others. That Night is created by Jason George (The Blacklist, Narcos), and the Spanish thriller gives a new spin to McAllister's 2021 novel, which was initially set in Italy.

Who Else Stars in 'That Night'?

Besides the actresses who play the Arbizu sisters and series creator George, That Night also features performances from Pedro Casablanc (Phenomena) as Javier Arbizu, Nüll García (Punto Nemo) as Luisa, and Jan Luis Castellanos (Uglies) as Will. As previously noted, McAllister's original piece set most of the action in Italy, but George brought on Spanish screenwriter Lara Sendim to flesh out the series and turn it into a Spanish original. Swapping Italy for the landscapes of the Dominican Republic and Pamplona. That Night strikes an interesting balance between highlighting the central trio of the story while giving platforms for other characters within it to shine as well. Each of its six episodes is dedicated to one character, and by the time the series wraps up, you realize that every character in the show is deeply flawed in some way or another.
