This 44-Year-Old Sci-Fi Franchise Is Officially Returning With New Spin-Off

Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

On May 6, 2026, Titan Comics, in partnership with Alcon Entertainment, will release Tokyo Nexus: To Lose Is To Win #1, a brand-new four-part mini-series that continues the cyberpunk saga 32 years after the franchise first reshaped sci-fi forever. What saga is that?

Rain. Neon. Replicants. Yes, the beloved sci-fi world of Blade Runner, originally created by Ridley Scott, is officially expanding again. Serving as a direct follow-up to 2024’s Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus: Die in Peace, the new installment once again follows former soldiers turned private detectives Mead and her replicant partner Stix as they navigate the neon-soaked underworld of futuristic Tokyo. The previous Tokyo Nexus arc earned a 3.5 out of 5 average rating on League of Comic Geeks, securing a “Mostly Positive” reception from readers. Now, To Lose Is To Win builds directly on that momentum — and raises the stakes. According to the official synopsis:

“Discovering that Mead and Stix are still alive, their old commanding officer, Uldren, sets out to kill them before they can reveal his treachery. The data he stole from Tyrell has enabled the Cheshire Corporation to create bootleg Replicants with the same kill signature as Stix. Meanwhile, still dealing with the fallout from the Yakuza civil war, Stix and Mead find themselves fighting for survival against Rumika, A Blade Runner sent by Tyrell to destroy Cheshire and all those connected with it.”

So yes — rogue corporations, stolen Tyrell data, bootleg replicants, and a Blade Runner hunting them all down. What else would we expect from a Blade Runner story?

Who Is Involved In 'To Lose Is To Win'?

While artist Mariano Taibo returns to bring Tokyo’s cyberpunk skyline to life, writing duties shift from Kianna Shore to Nancy A. Collins, marking a new creative direction for the series. Covers for the new mini-series will feature artwork from Junggeun Yoon, Dani and Brad Simpson, Piotr Kowalski, and Mariano Taibo.

Meanwhile, the Blade Runner universe will be expanding once again with the Michelle Yeoh-led sequel series titled Blade Runner 2099, which will bring the beloved sci-fi saga to the small screen on Prime Video.

Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus: To Lose Is To Win #1 hits shelves on May 6, 2026.
