A24 and Timothée Chalamet threw everything they had behind Josh Safdie's ping-pong film Marty Supreme, and their efforts paid off. The film turned out to be a smash hit, with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, becoming the highest-grossing A24 film of all time, winning a Golden Globe, and earning an Oscar nomination. Marty Supreme grossed approximately $150 million globally on a $70 million budget, becoming an unexpected hit despite a controlled international release.

Now, viewers who missed its theatrical run will finally have an opportunity to watch Chalamet's masterful performance at home. Marty Supreme will make its streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max in the U.S. on Friday, April 24, the streaming service has revealed. The film will also debut on HBO linear the following day, Saturday, April 25, at 8:00 pm ET. Marty Supreme's HBO Max streaming debut is in line with the streaming service's deal with A24, which gives them the streaming rights to most A24 films. The movie has earned praise for its direction and performances, especially Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. Collider's Ross Bonaime gave it a glowing review, writing,

"Even though Josh Safdie might be playing to his strengths with Marty Supreme — with the intensity, the escalation, and the lead character who lives in a deeply gray area — this is still one of the most exciting and engaging films you'll see all year. It'll get your heart pumping from the very beginning, rarely giving you time to breathe, and boasts a lead performance from an actor who's truly in command of his greatness."

Sometimes actors quit; other times they're fired. On this first day of spring, we're recalling some famous roles that got a fresh start with a recast.

'Marty Supreme' Took a Beatdown at the Oscars

At the 98th Academy Awards, held on March 16, Marty Supreme was nominated for 9 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor. The film did not win any of those nine awards, despite Chalamet's lauded performance and his efforts to promote it. That honor went to Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler's Sinners. Next, Chalamet will be seen in Dune: Part Three, in theaters on December 18. Marty Supreme's impressive cast also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Luke Manley, and Koto Kawaguchi.

Stream Marty Supreme on HBO Max on April 24 or watch it live on HBO the following day. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
