In Chicago, serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) is fatally shot by Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon). Using voodoo magic, Ray transfers his soul into a "Good Guy" doll. Widow Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) purchases the doll for her son Andy (Alex Vincent). Soon, Andy's babysitter is murdered, and Andy claims that Chucky is alive and responsible. As Chucky embarks on a killing spree, Karen and Detective Norris must stop him before he possesses Andy's body to regain his human form.
