ICPC ignoring El-Rufai’s bail request – Aide raises alarm
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, remains in detention as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has yet to act on his bail application, his media aide has revealed.
In a statement, Muyiwa Adekeye said it has been eight days since El-Rufai honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 16, 2026.
He was initially detained by the EFCC before being transferred to ICPC custody two days later.
Adekeye noted that despite submitting a formal bail request after interrogation, the former governor’s legal team has yet to receive any response from the commission.
He stressed that no remand order has been presented to justify the continued detention, even as the constitutional 48 hours limit for holding a suspect without charge has since passed.
In a related development, El-Rufai has challenged the legality of a search carried out at his Abuja residence by ICPC officials.
He described the action as “a violation of his rights” and is asking the court to nullify the warrant used.
The case continues as legal battles intensify over his detention, bail application, and the allegations against him.
