Six months after Superman's heroic death at the hands of Doomsday, Metropolis is grappling with a rising crime wave. In the wake of his absence, four mysterious and controversial figures have appeared, each claiming to be the new Superman. Meanwhile, Lois Lane and Clark Kent’s adoptive parents continue to mourn his loss.

Lois, determined to uncover the truth, begins investigating the identities and origins of these Supermen. During a press conference, Lex Luthor reveals a new Superman to the public—later exposed by Lois as Superboy, a clone engineered by Dr. Dabney Donovan. Chaos erupts when the Eradicator, Steel, and Cyborg Superman interrupt the event and engage in battle. After a brief clash, the Eradicator and Cyborg Superman retreat.

Later, at the Fortress of Solitude, the Eradicator is seen infusing Superman’s corpse with DNA. That night, Cyborg Superman approaches Lois, attempting to prove his legitimacy as the real Superman. At the same time, Lex Luthor grows increasingly irritated by Superboy’s immature behavior.
