The Seduction Season 1 (2025) is a lavish French-language HBO Original period drama that serves as a feminist prequel to Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's infamous 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Set in the opulent salons and shadowy intrigues of pre-Revolutionary Paris, the series chronicles the transformative ascent of young Isabelle de Merteuil (Anamaria Vartolomei), a brilliant but underestimated noblewoman who, after a brutal betrayal by the rakish Vicomte de Valmont (Vincent Lacoste), reinvents herself as the cunning Marquise de Merteuil. Mentored by the worldly Madame de Rosemonde (Diane Kruger), Isabelle weaponizes her intellect, sensuality, and ruthless ambition to navigate a treacherous web of aristocratic power plays, forbidden affairs, and societal hypocrisy—climbing from disgrace to dominance among Paris's elite courtesans. Created by Jean-Baptiste Delafon with a modern lens on female agency and sexual liberation, the six-episode arc blends erotic tension, sharp wit, and political maneuvering in visually sumptuous tableaux, exploring the intoxicating cost of vengeance and the thrill of authoring one's fate in a world designed to silence women.
