A Nigerian citizen has urged the Federal Government to rename the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in honor of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

This appeal follows news of Buhari’s passing at a hospital in London, UK, just days ago. His remains were subsequently flown back to Nigeria aboard a military aircraft.

Shortly after, a man identified on social media as @TheoAbuAgada took to his platform to suggest the renaming.
He posted: “UNILAG should be named after Buhari. We must honor our ex-president.”

The statement quickly stirred mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians taking to the comments to express differing opinions.

Here are some of the responses:

  • @Buchyogba: “Lol. I support this motion. Buhari deserves the honor.”
  • @FranklinCh8824: “I’m telling you, bro. I hope they do so. Buhari has been a patriotic citizen. He’s the best President Nigeria has ever produced.”
  • @wilex_williams: “What happened to the university in Daura? He built it—they can name that one after him.”
  • @Adeniyi01520272: “What about the University of Transport in Daura? His administration established that. That would be more fair and appropriate.”
  • @ougwuja: “Kogi State University should be named after Buhari.”
  • @FranklinCh8824 (again): “I hope so, because he really tried for Nigerians.”
