Egypt have officially lodged a complaint with FIFA over the refereeing decisions in their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash against Argentina.

The Egyptian Football Association is also demanding that referee Francois Letexier, who officiated the match, be removed from the list of officials for the remainder of the tournament.

Following Egypt's dramatic 3-2 defeat, head coach Hossam Hassan criticised Letexier's performance, describing the officiating as "unfair" and alleging that the competition appeared to be "directed towards Argentina."

Argentina fought back by scoring three goals in a remarkable 13-minute spell to secure a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland.

However, the decisive goal sparked controversy, with Hassan insisting Egypt should have been awarded a penalty moments before Julián Álvarez launched the counter-attack that ended with Enzo Fernández heading home the winning goal in the 92nd minute.
